God doesn't give us more than we can handle... or does He?

Yes. Yes He does. Or... maybe it's not really about God GIVING us more than we can handle, but the fallen world we live in being more than we were created to hold up under. Maybe it's because the first sin, all the sins after, and our own sins that cause consequences that are more than we can bare.

Deadly diseases conquer on bodies, other people's decisions conquer our situations, our own sins conquer our righteousness. We were created in the beginning, in the garden to have perfection. Perfection in ourselves and perfection in our walk with God. The first sin destroyed all of that. Now we live in a fallen world full of "more than we can handle" situations.

If I could handle my life by myself and all of my victories as well as all of my defeats, why would I need a Savior? Why would Jesus die on the cross, restoring my broken relationship with God, if I could do this all on my own? I understand that people get through some really tough stuff without depending on God ... but they do it depending on something or someone. What God wants for us to depend on is Him. He is the only one who can see the WHOLE picture and whether we believe it or not, the One who has the power to transform our circumstance and even more so, our lives.

Ephesians 6:10 talks about the ever raging battle around us against good and evil. Paul wrote this book while experiencing more than he could handle on his own. He was a prisoner in Rome arrested for preaching about God. Paul says this, " 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. (This is my favorite part...) 14 STAND FIRM THEN, WITH the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

After I have done all I can do to stand. KEEP standing but not on my own. Stand WITH all of the tools that God has equipped us with to fight the battle against everything against us. It doesn't say stand on your own and hope that everything is going to turn out ok. Hold to TRUTH, PEACE, FAITH, YOUR SALVATION, and GOD's WORD. Paul knew this world was more than he could hold up against, he knew it was more than any of us can hold up against. And I believe that if we forget any one of those items of "armor" we are vulnerable to the attacks of Satan.

Our lives are filled with more than we can handle, but God has equipped us so that WITH and THROUGH HIM we can be more than conquerors.
